Dogs can suffer from insomnia just like people. One proof of this is a small dog named Momo, who would always be restless in the middle of the night. He’s never able to sleep at night and would only fall into microsleeps most of the time.
Since Momo can’t fall asleep, he often pesters his owners at night. He makes loud noises, squeals, and whines. Yet Momo is not doing so out of malice because he simply can’t help it. His insomnia and night outbursts are bot results of an underlying problem.
Momo is traumatized by loud noises and vibrations. This puts him in such a predicament because everyday noises would bother him most of the time. Furthermore, his owners had no idea how to help him.
One day, an expert dog behaviorist offered to help Momo. The expert named Chan Jong had an extensive background in helping dogs recover from trauma and anxiety. Momo was no different, he’s a dog who can be cured, and Chan Jong is determined to do it.
The first thing that the expert did was provide Momo with a special dog house. This small house was built specifically to reduce noise and absorb vibrations. Any dog inside it would hardly hear or feel anything happening outside.
Chan Jong placed treats inside the dog house to entice Momo to enter. Once inside, the dog felt the difference, and he quickly relaxed and felt cozy. It was a good sign for sure, but the expert was only getting started.
Momo was also given a bath in a tub full of aroma soap. The nice scent put Momo in a further state of relaxation. Finally, Momo was outfitted with a compression vest that would reduce shaking and uneasiness. It’s a piece of clothing that gives the dog a warm hug.
Momo was placed inside his dog house when evening came while wearing the compression vest. It only took mere seconds for the dog to completely fall asleep. Just like that, his insomnia was gone. Of course, the owner still has to provide continuous support until Momo is no longer spooked by noises and vibrations.
