Valerie Schomberg is an animal control officer from California. One day, while she was doing her patrol on the beach of Newport, she came across a very friendly labrador retriever walking on the sand. Although she was a stranger to the stray pooch, the dog never showed any signs of aggression. In fact, he even jogged up to her and started licking her hands.
The kind officer noticed that he favored one side of his body when the dog went to her. When he got closer, Valerie noticed that the pleasant pooch had a massive tumor hanging over the right side of his body. It didn’t just make him look pregnant, but the large mass also made it difficult for the dog to move around.
On a mission
Valerie was taken aback by what she saw. She was heartbroken that this sweet pooch had this worrisome condition. The concerned lady made it her mission to take her off the streets and get the dog the medical treatment that he needed.
She immediately took the dog to her vehicle, and he was more than happy to get in. On the way to the vet, he decided to name him Henry. Valerie believes that there was a good chance that somebody owned him before because of the dog’s character. But because of his condition, he was dumped by his owners.
Half his weight
The smiling dog quickly won over the hearts of the medical team. They agreed to perform surgery for him for a discounted price. Valerie got to work immediately and got a grant to help pay for his costly operation. After his treatment, the dog remained in the clinic to recuperate.
It didn’t take long for Henry to be back on his feet again. He was happier, quicker, and more active with the tumor removed. The mass that they removed was more than half his weight. It was a massive relief for the abandoned dog to have it surgically removed.
Valerie believes that with his character, it wouldn’t be difficult to find him a new home.
