Wilmer Chavez Chavez, the founder of Albergue Vidas De 4 Patas, a charitable animal rescue institution based in Callao, Lima, Peru, left the shelter one day to attend to an emergency situation. He was with a friend when he spotted a dog by the side of the road. He knew he had to help the poor animal because if he didn’t, no one else would.
The rescuer asked his friend to pull over and he jumped out of the car immediately. He approached the dog and realized that despite her poor state, she was a gorgeous Pitbull. He slowly walked toward her and she wagged her tail when she saw him. She knew he’d provide the help she needed.
He didn’t have to befriend her because she trusted him right away. She let him carry her in his arms and stayed still as he loaded her into the car. And throughout their drive to the vet’s clinic, she just sat at the back of the car and rested.
The vets examined the dog and determined she was pregnant a few days ago. Based on her body condition, however, it didn’t seem that she gave birth to a litter. She had an abortion, which the doctors believed were performed by someone other than a professional.
The mama dog, named Balu, later on, was in the worst imaginable state. She tested positive for distemper and was extremely dehydrated and malnourished. But despite her horrible state, she proved to be a sweet and resilient girl who loved people no matter what.
Balu’s condition worsen for the first few days after her rescue. But surprisingly, she just decided to get better. She slowly added weight and gradually gained back her strength.
Four months later, Balu transformed completely. From an emaciated dog, she became a gorgeous Pitbull. She’s healthy, happy, and more than ready to start fresh.
At 2.5 years old, Balu is incredibly young and she deserves nothing but to be able to enjoy life. She doesn’t ask for much. All she wants is a home she can call her own and a family she can love for the rest of her years.
